No Pain, No Gain!

For some time now Ray has been trying to get me to workout with him doing P90X, a 90 day video workout program that he has actually completed a few times. A few of days ago I relented, decided to humor him, and did the legs and back workout. He warned me not to do too much or I’d be sorry. I thought I listened because I was extra cautious and did a modified/wimpy version of what he was doing so that I didn’t hurt myself. I even thought to myself when we finished, "that wasn’t so bad". The next morning when I woke up I was certainly feeling it. My legs were so sore that I could barely walk up or down stairs, and sitting down on the toilet was excruciating. (I am sure that was way more than you need/want to know about) I was in pain!

But it was a good pain. An I really want to get in shape, and this really might work kind of pain. Now that a couple of days have gone by, I did it again…this time with a friend. It's a 90 day program, 2 days down, 88 to go...

Addicted

So, back when Oprah was on daytime tv she would do a Favorite Things show each fall. She would highlight a bunch of things that she loved and would actually give them to everyone in her studio audience. (Secretly, I dreamed of being there) Anyway, in some small way I adopted her favorite things idea into my own life and when I came across something that I really, really loved, I would add it to my own list and when the opportunity presented itself would share it with my family and friends.

It just dawned on me that an awful lot of items on my favorite things lists seem to revolve around food. Some of my list of favorites from 2011 were: new favorite restaurant-The Blue Lemon, new favorite cookbook-Our Best Bites, and new favorite treat...

These little morsels of heaven come from V Chocolates in Salt Lake City. I can honestly say I've loved everything I have ever tasted from V Chocolates, but out of all that they sell, the little pretzel bites are hands down the best. Whoever figured out the proper proportion of dark chocolate, caramel, and pretzel to make these is brilliant.
I may or may not have eaten an entire bag without sharing a single one of them.

Rest & Relaxation

Ray and I just returned from a week in Mexico where we stayed at an incredible adult’s only all-inclusive resort. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and we did absolutely nothing all week. Seriously... no ruins, no shopping, no swimming, no sightseeing whatsoever. We took only one photo all week and it wasn't even on the beach, but sitting on the edge of the bathtub in our hotel room!

Some may say traveling that far and doing nothing is lame. The last time we were that lazy on vacation was 28 years ago on our honeymoon! ;)

So when we came through customs and the officer who stamped our passport could see we declared that we had not made any purchases while there, he commented and asked what we had done. We smiled and replied, “Nothing.”

Lame? Probably, but it sure was fun!

How did that happen?

Recently I looked in the mirror and had to do a double take. Who is that person looking back at me? How did I get this old and when did my body rearraage itself? Not only that, Ray and I both turned the big five-o a few months ago and for the first time in 26 years have no children at home.

Now some have thought our empty nest would leave us bored and lonely, but not so. We are embracing this stage in our lives and are having a lot of fun with the freedom and flexibility it has given us to spend more time together. We have also realized how quickly life passes by, so have decided to make sure we are doing all of the things we have always dreamed of doing.

It is time to put the rest the misconceptions that twenty-somethings have about people our age. If you have seen the 2011 Toyota Venza commercials, you pretty much know what I'm talking about.

Trust me, life when the kids leave is not that bad!
